Highland Perthshire and the Cairngorms National Park are a great base for outdoor adventurers, whether you are in to hiking, biking or snow sports there is something to suit everyone.
Munros and Corbetts
There are some fantastic Munros and Corbetts in Perthshire including Ben Vrackie near Pitlochry, Schiehallion near Kinlochrannoch and Ben Lawers at Loch Tay, all are within a 1.5 hour drive. There are also some great peaks in the Glenshee and Braemar areas including Glas Moal, Ben Gulabin and Glas Tulaichean. A well known local hill, Mount Blair, is a short drive away and is a fairly simple climb with great views over Glenshee and Glenisla.
There is a selection of OS maps of the surrounding area available for you to borrow from the house, we just that you return them for our other guests to make use of.
Any hill walking or other activities are at your own risk, make sure you do your own research and are fully equipped before setting off. Always check the weather forecast before heading out and the avalanche forecast during winter months.
For walking routes by region have a look at Walk Highlands.
The Cateran Trail
The Cateran Trail is a fully way-marked 64 mile walk which is a great way to explore the local area by foot, it passes through the villages of Bridge of Cally, Kirkmichael, Enochdhu and the Spittal of Glenshee. You can do the full route or you can break it up into sections.
The Cateran Yomp
Once a year in June the Cateran Yomp takes place, a great charity challenge in support of ABF, the Soldier’s Charity. The challenge is to walk 54 miles in 24 hours, not for the faint hearted!
Glenshee Ski Centre
Spanning over 3 valleys and 4 mountains Glenshee is the largest ski area in Scotland, it has a great range of pistes for all abilities plus equipment rental and 3 cafes on site. During the summer months the centre is also home to mountain biking trails with uplift provided by chairlift.
For snow sports rental and instruction try Freshtracks Glenshee, based at Glenshee Pottery.
There are some great forestry trails right on the doorstep in Blackcraig Forest (access beside Bridge of Cally Hotel), for something more technical try Glenshee Ski Centre which is open for mountain bikers in the summer with access provided by the chairlift.
